Composting toilet return to sustainable living

OK there it is. Nothing very fancy but it seems to work well for me. The garbage can houses the sawdust and under the toilet seat is a plastic bucket. I have been rather hesitant to mention this because of the difficulty most people have with composting human waste. For the past year I have been eating the vegetables from the garden that have used the composted material for fertilizer. I have followed the directions of Joseph Jenkins from his excellent book " The Humanure Handbook" Look it up on the interent for a copy.
http://www.jenkinspublishing.com/humanure.html I compost the humanure along with other garden waste for over a year watching the composting thermometer carefully. This saves an awful lot of water from not flushing, provides fertilizer for the garden and makes me feel a lot better about what to do with this very recyclable material. |
