Class of May 2000

Fee for the entire workshop is $250 (some classes may overlap). Individual classes are marked. Add $100 for the Monarch Checkout.(weather permitting)

May 3-5th, 2001 (thursday -sunday)
with an open house on May 6th, 2000

The Monarch checkout will be scheduled as weather permits.Classes will be held in autotowing, flying characteristics, limitations etc. weather permitting. Most of the flying will be done in the early morning or late evening. Please review the flight manual before the workshop. CD rom available for $10.-added Cost of the monarch checkout is $100. The Hands on Class projects will take place each day. It will involve making a part in a mold using fiberglass and epoxy resins and/or making a mold.

All classes are subject to change and ideas are welcome!

Aerodynamics:
THURSDAY, May 3rd, 2000

$100 per day 9 -5, Limit of 10 students
9:00 AM Introduction, review of activities and tour of facility.
10:00 AM Airfoils, types and reading Eppler Code
11:00 AM Calculating Flight performance
12 noon -lunch! Everyone kicks in $5 for a buffet lunch
1:00 Composite Basics
1 PM:Working with composites. Epoxies, cloth, mold making lecture and shop work.
3-4 PM:Composte Layups, Class projects, make a part from a rib mold, flying,
3 PM: Monarch Checkrides. Review the slide shows flight manual and Towing. Discussion of Auto towing. Demonstration of a launch.Flying weather permitting. Winds need to be about 5 mph for students.

Evening -model flying, films, Watch videos and slide shows, etc

Structure Design
FRIDAY, may 4, 2001

Stress calculations for wing design:8 am - 2 pm $100 per day 9 -5, Limit of 10 students

9:00AM Fiberglass materials and Carbon rod
10:00AM Fiberglass Layup and Carbon Rod Calculations.
12 noon: Lunch!

Mold Making:
Friday Afternoon:

1:00 PM: Plug Design and Fabrication Theory.
2:30 PM: Rib and Mold Layups
3 PM: Class projects, building a part from a mold, demonstrations, flying.
6 PM: Model Flying with Mike Couts. Mike might even demonstrate his jet!.... but then there's his gyrocopter, areobatic helicopter, gliders etc.
7 PM: barbeque. Everyone throws in $6 to the elected chef!

SATURDAY, May 5, 2001
Theory and history behind flying wings, an introductory course with Jim Marske and Serge Kraus: $50 per day 9-12, 20 students limit

9:00 AM Flying Wing history with serge Kraus
10:30 AM Flying Wing Design

12 noon Lunch
1 PM:
Flying, class projects glider rides, model flying, videos, discussions.

Sunday: May 6, 2001
Marske Open House, Flying, videos, finish class projects.


OPTIONAL COURSES: these courses will take place each day of the workshop dependant on registration..

Welding demonstration: The basics of welding demonstration. No fee

Canopy making: Make a canopy -how long to make canopy? Make your own Canopy $100 + materials ($40) for the day limit of 5. Auditors, $50 max 10 people

Introduction to metal parts fabrication. limit of 10 . Welding, cutting, grinding etc. Auditors $50 and participants $100.

Making a mold from Foam Plug, $50 to audit $100 to particpate.Limit of 10 participants, materials -$15

Sailplane rides, flight reviews and instruction are available on Thursday through Sunday (or a few days before the workshop). Costs are $14.00 per ride for a 2-33 and $18.50 for a grob 103. Get on the list for this!

Mat Redsell is a CFIG and can do all signoffs

Free Camping or "sleeping bag in the office" is available at the Marske workshop, complete with hot showers!

The Marske Flying Wings workshop also offers "in shop building" for the customers. A fee of $250 a month gives you building space, storage and advice. One can book various times throughout the year then store the glider for $75 per month when you are not working on the project. RV's accomodated!
