Drag Spar End : plans are mildly confusing in this area. Here is photo of how elevator drag spar mates with aileron drag spar and the box that forms where they meet. Will be skinned both sides to form a box. Make sure and drill pressure relief holes in the ribs, so the box can breathe.

Aileron : after building aileron to spec from plans, now fitting to hinges and hinge line. Also lining up trailing edge of section between aileron and elevator

Elevator : with elevator and aileron rigged, this allows the final placement of trailing edge for the section between the control surfaces.

Skin : very traumatic step! Gluing on first piece of lower skin. Make a mistake here and it is back to square one! First, glued skin to spar, without letting any glue migrate to the rib surfaces. Then, wedged the skin up so I could spread glue from the junction of the rib and spar, forward to the rib and nose spar joint. Also spread glue on the nose spar. Then used C-clamps and notched wedges ( to provide level clamping surface for sloped edge of top surface) to hold skin down on ribs and nose spar. Provided an even smooth pressure to give solid glue joint on all mating surfaces.

Staple Strips : First step in gluing on skins is to glue skin to spar. Used temporary lathing strips to staple skins down to spar, for gluing. Left these in place even after glue dried, until skins were glued to ribs and leading edge spars. Then, removed all clamps, strips and staples.

Wedges : here are the notched wedges, which allowed the C-clamps to hold the lower skin in place, without crushing the edge of the spar.

Rigging Wings : Once lower skins were on, jigged wings to carry through structure and set dihedral, sweep, and incidence angle. Then clamped spar fittings in place for reaming.

Spar fitting : Once wings rigged in relationship to each other and the carry through structure, clamped the spar fittings in place for reaming.

Taper pins : very important to have NEW tapered reamer for this phase. Make sure to clamp all parts TIGHTLY, so they don’t migrate while you are reaming the pins. If all stays stable during this phase, it will mean a much easier rigging job when putting the ship together!

Elevator Rig : Once the spar fittings are drilled and bolted in place, rig the elevator torque tube and check for clearance and freedom of movement.

Spoiler Rig : mounting and rigging of spoilers, along with their cables and springs.
