August 27, 2007. I must admit my work on the flying wings has been slowed due to my interest in sustainable living. However I have been able to work on the videos and am preparing to release many more of the videos I have shot in the last 5 years. Now that the RC models have been developing the larger electric dc electric motors and batteries I can look again to see if there is a power pack that will work on the Monarch.

June 20, 2007. Finally mat is back working on the Monarch.

Feb 20, 2007. We are finally getting the office organized and providing a few more CD's and DVD's for study.

Jan 6, 2007. The flying wings group has suggested many ideas for the electric launch Monarch .

Dec 29, 2006. A preview of the design of the Electric Launch Monarch

Dec 18,2006. A little more progress on the new fiberglass monarch.

Nov 22, 2006, Our Flying wings group above is in the process of discussing adapting an electric engine to the monarch. I need all the help I can get for those interested.

October 27, 2006. I have spent last year writing about my experiences with Jim Marske over the last 5 years and have now decided to publish the article. It may be controversial as I do criticize Jim who has been regarded as an icon in flying wings. I would be happy to publish other points of view, please email me.

Oct 11, 2006. Yes I was finally able to do some work on the new Monarch. Al Pernell has sent me some photos of his newly completed Pioneer!

Sept 20, 2006. Finally everything is coming together! I have purchased a new property. This now allows us a new workshop (40 ft x 80 ft with 20 ft ceilings), a smaller workshop for woodworking and fiberglass work in the winter along with a large two story house which will be used as an office and film production facility.

This is the new shop area still filled with junk!
Photo of the small workshop and house (offices) with a very large parking lot.

This is a very large property that includes a number of fruit trees and gardens. I still have our original building close by which I will use for storage and studies in sustainable living.

My mother has now entered a care facility which has relieved me of caring for her.

Peter Mezaros and I flew the Monarch and now have it at an airfield.

Mike couts has made tremendous progress on the the Pioneer V quarter scale.

-mat

August 3, 2006. Things are fairly slow in the flying wings for me since I am caring for my aging parent, especially for my mother who has alzhimers.Peter Meszaros and myself have decided to electrify the Monarch and we will begin test flying in a week or so.

I have also put in an offer to purchase a much larger industrial building 40" x 80" with 20 ft ceilings to pursue the flying wings on a larger scale.

-mat

May 2, 2006. Finally I am getting a chance to catch up on the web site. Peter Ivens of Belgium pointed out that I never did list the Design workshop CD. That is now done and contains a lot of very good information on flying wings.

Thanks for the many orders of CD's andDVD's. Things are a little difficult just now as I am helping care for my mother who has alzheimers. However I am planning more videos and flying in June.

Feb 13, 2006. Yes the web site was down for a few days which confused everyone. Somehow the renewal for the web site got mislaid but everything is back Things have been slow in aricraft related items but this time of year I am busy with Taxes, remodeling the workshop and dealing with the city on severance issues. Mike has been busy with the Pioneer V quarter scale. I have also been busy selling the flight videos and workshop videos.

Jan 03, 2005. I have finally done a better job of listing some of the workshop cd's and dvd's I have made over the last few years. Mike is making good progress on the Pioneer V quarterscale RC.

December 15, 2005. Mike and Mat met to discuss the construction of the wings and fuselage for the Quarter scale PV.

Dec 9, 2005. A few more videos from 2005 are now available.

Oct 20, 2005. Mike and I finally got some good shots of Monarch flights and there is some new dvd's and CD roms available.

Oct. 13, 2005. There is finally progress on the Pioneer V quarter scale. and Mike and Mat have flwon the Monarch F again.

Oct 4, 2005. Mike has the Pioneer V 1/4 scale fuselage mold. The Monarch F has flown again.

Oct 2, 2005. It has been quite distubing that Jim and Mat are no longer working together and are now having a dispute. Read about it.

Sept 27, 2005. Progress has been slow but at least there is progress. Our newsgroup is fairly active in discussing a powered Monarch and might be of interest to those visiting the site ( see above). The shop is coming together.. new worksbenchs are done, redoing drywall and inulation and planning an alternative buidling with composting toilet, solar cells etc.

I am watching the impending energy crisis carefully.......... and wondering just how that will affect soaring. Join our newsgroup to voice your opinion.

This winter will be spent mostly on working on my videos and insulating the shop but next year should be most interesting as we finish a Monarch and assemble teams for various projects.

Mike Couts hasbeen very busy making a lid for the Pioneer.... looks good Mike!

This site is now a study into flying wings after the designs of Fauvel. The practical aspect of building, flying and their documentation will now be our focus. Jim Marske is no longer associated with us.

-mat

August 3, 2005. Finally the Flying wing CD is available, see our flying wing dvd's and CD's for sale section.

August 1, 2005. I finally got some pictures of our Pioneer retrieve from Galion.

July 5, 2005. Well it finally happened..... Mike Landed out!

June 21, 2005. Mat has made the first cross country of the season in the Pioneer. The flight was 4 hours long and went 228 kilometers.

June 12, 2005.The Study videos are now more readily available by telephone for credit cards or through the post office.

FlightVideos

June 06, 2005. Yes it has been about 6 weeks away from the flying but the move is complete now and we can again answer emails and send out videos. Mat is back doing the videos and flying the Pioneer. Mike has been up a few times and reports that the mass balances work well... but we had to change the nose wheel due to a tube failure of the front wheel..

Over the next few months Mat will try document all that has been done over the last five years at the Marske Flying Wings and complete the 1/4 scale two place.

Some of the issues facing us now are what direction to follow over the next few years. I would like to form teams to build, study and document everything and especially to share all that has been done through video and the web site.

thanks for being patient!

April 17, 2005. The Pioneer has flown! Mat test flew the Pioneer on sunday April 17, 2005.

March 31, 2005. The Marion workshop location is now closed and the new location in Port Burwell Canada is being set up so news may be a little slow for the next few months.

eSo here is our new home

But despite the very tedious nature of moving the shop Mike and Mat have been very busy making the trailer for the flying of the Pioneer II d with its new mass balanced ailerons and elevator. Despite the new location of the workshop the Pioneer will be stationed in Marion where we will continue to film research flights for the coming year.... and yes to put a lid on that new trailer.

December 16, 2004. Over the next few months this Interent site will make a number of changes. This site will no longer be associated soley with the Designs and building of Jim Marske's gliders but offer financial, composite information , aerodynmic resources and workshop techniques to those who want to pursue flying wings. While the underlying concentration will be full size flying wings we will be active in 1/4 scale models for the purposes of flight testing and general interest. All material will be freely shared on this site except videos. Free Plans will also be offered but anyone can make alterations to them, add to the design or offer alternatives. Articles will be published and again the participation of readers is encouraged to email differing opinions or add to the subject at hand for publication.

Oct 29, 2004. Really enjoying the flight testing of the Pioneer IId!

October 13, 2004. Lots of test flights in the Pioneer IId this last few weeks... and all of them video taped! The results are coming in and yes there is a lot better performance than I had expected and yes the L/D at 85 is about 26:1... not bad for an old bird! But the point of Mats testing is not how good it is but the shape of the curve... I do beleive that there is something to the theory that as the speed increases the decrease in L/D is less that expected when compared to tailed ships. the results will show all of this. Donations accepted to help with the tow costs.... and I will send you a video of the test flight you want to sponsor!

The more I fly this Pioneer the more I enoy it... I have so much to learn.
