We expect to test and publish performance figures for this glider during the summer of 2002.

We feel that The Pioneer IId designed in the 1970's was grossly misrepresented in an article in Soaring Magazine which erroneously tested a poorly built example with a completely inappropriate substitute airfoil, but was represented as a true Marske Pioneer.

. Jim Marske deserves a lot more recognition for an extremely advanced well performing, well designed sailplane than he received in this Soaring Society article.

Sept 14, 2002, the rebuilt Pioneer flies again! Mat on his second flight. We did four autotows and where very happy with the flights.

Our story follows:

Sept 7, 2002. Mike was very busy while the shop was on vacation. He painted the final coats of poly brush and poly tone on the wings, covered the ruddere and painted it as well.

Wings done!
Mike masking off the fuselage
Everything is painted... say this is very close to flight testing!

August 14, 2002. Sorry it has been so long since we last made a post. We have been pushing hard to finish the Pioneer.

Wings ready for the fabric!
Laying out the cloth
Fabric down now for the polybrush
Polybrush done
And finally the aluminum, polyspray
Mike finishing up on the rudder

August 3, 2002.We have been working very hard to finsih the Pioneer. But we did have a disaster... we where just painting on the polytak when the varnish started to aligator. We had done some tests earlier... but perhaps it was not dry. In any case here we tried to save a few bucks by not using the two part varnish and we got bit! So we have let it dry thoroughly and are going to give it a coat of epoxy just to be sure.

Leading dege addition tp the rudder.

August 1, 2002. We are putting a lot of time in to get this glider finished. Mike took two days off of work to help out. We have the wings finished (everything works) and our precover inspection done by Tim Tanquay. It is varnished and ready to cover.

Mike vacuuming out the wing ready for varnishing.
The new rudder changes work fine!

July 22, 2002. Lots of time spent on the Pioneer during the last week.

Quite a lot of glider in the workshop!
Mike checking out the rudder alignment.
Mating the wing to the fuselage
We cut down the front bulkhead to lower the seat, whcih also meant relocating the rudder cables.
Trial fit for the glass covering of the front of the rudder

July 12, 2002. Yes, still working away...wing fittings back on, Spoilers hooked up and now working on the new rudder installation.

The spoilers connected!
The corrected release cover, yet to be inset in cabosil.
Mike using his new CAD system to design the rudder hinges (Cardboard aided design)
The repaired wing fittings
