Bill Singleton ,chairman of the Soaring safety Foundation, in a recent article, July 2001, states that "for the period 1996-2000, the NTSB accident reports seven mid air collisions conducting glider operations, including gliders and tow craft."

July 2001 issue of soaring , sailplane safety:.NTSB report reports that as ASW -20 took off without an elevator connected. Upon release the glider went nose down into the ground killing the pilot. A BRS may have saved a life here.

July 2001 issue of soaring , sailplane safety; Cessna towplane pilot and Bellanca had a mid air at 500 ft. Luckily only minor injuries to the pilots. A BRS would have been helpful if the tow plane had sustained damage to the wing or elevator making it impossible to land.
