Below are downloadable zipped excel spreadsheets to perform theoretical calculations for spar design and performance of a 15 meter Monarch in studies by Mat Redsell.

There is still a lot of work to do in the practical study of an actual sailplane and the summer of 2002 will see inroads in that direction for the Monarch G 13 meter and Pioneer IId 15 meter. Keep posted in the Butterfly Works for progress.

These spreadsheets can easily be modified to suit your needs. The spar calculations are those assembled by Jim Marske for use in his Classes on spar calculations. Please note that all theoretical studies must be proved by proper testing of materials and construction methods.

Most of the aerodynamic formulas have been derived from aerodynamic studies with many simplified equations by Jim Marske.
