LOG:

June 11, 2001. Got started on the new design of the ailerons... yes 16 ribs to make for each aileron!!!!

Seams are covered with two layers of carbon!
Foam plugs ready for casting new molds! We are much happier with this new construction.

June 6, 2001. Got the Aileron skinned and do not like the weight.... almost 3 pounds. I think we should put in ribs and skin it with cloth. The fuselage was taken out of the mold and prepared for adding the nosecone and fin.

Weights so far:

Aileron -3 lbs.... which I think is too heavy and would like to do this in cloth!

Wing less cloth and aileron about 28 lbs : so I think the 35- 40 pounds per wing is easily possible

fuselage -17 1/2 lbs
nosecone -4 3/4 lbs
seat -1 3/4 lbs

Rudder -1 3/4 lbs

Weight for the fusleage should be about 40 -50 lbs.

Total Monarch should weigh 40 + 40 + 50+ extra 10 lbs= 140 lbs.

Note the stainless belcrank to a phenolic fitting fitted to the carbon pushrod. The phenolic will get a layer of carbon to assure a solid structure.
The new aileron... but I feel they weigh too much and would prefer skinning it in cloth!
The fuselage just out of the mold! 17 1/2 lbs.

June 4, 2001. All of the metal parts are now welded... and some of them polished already. We have one aileron with a skin on it and the fusleage has been epoxied together.

The aileron gets a bottom skin!
There is one half of the fuselage.... ready to be mated to the top half! And there is jim...... ready to dig in!
The fuselage buttoned up!

May 30, 2001. Stainless bolts and nuts have come in. The ailerons are going together, the spoiler is fitted to the wing and more work is done on the metal parts.

One aileron getting a rib and cutout for hte yaw damper.
There is an aileron attached to the wing if your look very closely
Jigwork done.... now to the TIG welding
We have a spoiler installed!

May 26, 2001. Elevators are attached, one complete spoiler is fitted and the ailerons are next! We have the metal work all jigged ready for welding. Stainless bolts and nuts have been ordered so we can button up the fuselage and get the fin installed next week !!

Now that is starting to look like a real wing!!!
One ailerons ready for hinges and skins.

May 21, 2001. We have Spoilers!!! this was a particularly difficult part to design given our criteria that it should weigh nothing!!! and yet have great strength. ...so they are carbon .

Two new spoilers with molds for the arms... and an odd mold for the aileron.
We took a day to check Lloyd Watson out in the Monarch!.....

May 18, 2001. A lot more work done on the metal parts.. making jigs ready for the welding. The elevators are ready for installation and skinning. I'm tending towards just doing cloth on the elevators for weight and in discussion with Jim he feels ther is no need for carbon on the underside.... but that option is still open.

Elevators with the Gussets being glued.
Spoiler arm plugs and part of the yaw damper mechanism.
One of the Metal part jigs!
