June 20, 2007. Yes I'm gradually getting the Monarch built. Here I am sanding out some filler in an aileron. Note the lister diesel on the right and an oil expeller on the left in the background. ( new toys)

Dec 10, 2006. The old Monarch F beside the new Monarch G being built in our new shop

Nov 29,2006. The hinge platforms are glued in place.

Nov 25, 2006. The gusset application. I layup a layer of 10 oz fiberglass on a waxed piece of plastic (white here) and cut them into gussets which I apply with tape to hold them down. After they cure I pull off the plastic.

Nov 20, 2006, Fitting the aileron. On this particular aileron I had measured incorrectly so I broke apart the aileron and reglued it to fit to the trailing edges all lined up.

In March of 2005 Mat decided to move his operation to Canada. He purchased a building for storage and then in August of 2006 he purchased a large hangar to continue his studies into flying wings. Also he began flying the Monarch again .

The present state of the Monarch in the new hangar.
The main attach points are fitted.

Feb 13, 2005 in the Marion Ohio shop

We have an aileron.

December 23, 2004. Been putting a lot of time in on getting the wings done.

Laying up a trailing edge.
Mat putting in the elevator ribs
Installation of the aileron pushrods.
Installation of the new trailing edges and gussets.

December 13, 2004. Progress is steady now after my two week vacation.

The trailing edge epoxied on
the new molded ribs make for a quick build elevator
Gussets added to the ribs and trailing edge
Spoilers are complete and installed

November 2004. Yikes two years later! Well we need another Monarch for the shop so the building continues!

Yes they are wings ! All ribs are in.
Another view of the wings!

March 20, 2002. We have the metal parts laser cut and have many of them formed.

Jan 23, 2002. We are building all the fiberglass parts before we begin assembly mainly due to the fabrication of the metal parts which is taking some time to assemble in our CAD system. We send an email to the laser cutting place and they send back the parts....

We have decided that working in Carbon is far superior! It is easier to work into the molds and wets out easier. There has been some question as to whether the carbon fibers are hazardous to our health though.... more research!

Jeff making up the elevator ribs ready for vacuum bagging.

Jan 14, 2002. We have slowed on this project since we have the pioneer IId rebuild rather pressing. However we are getting the metal work laser cut and have developed new strut cuffs.

The molds are behind the new cuffs. The cuffs slide down on the struts for assembly and then slide up and are taped when the assembly is complete.
Another view of the strut cuffs

Dec 5, 2001. All of the ribs have been fabricated...so on with the wing building!

Hey dtubes ready to go! Rear spar etc ready to go on the shelf!

Nov 20, 2001. We have a new challenge to make a fiberglass Monarch under 155lbs!

Jeff making the new fiberglass ribs. Here he is pulling the plastic off the prepreg fiberglass. then comes the vacuum bagging.
